CAT | laser cutter
i have been wanting to make a laser cutter for a while now, while having lost my small collection of stepper motors in moving to copenhagen, i instead gained sight on two old chips in my drawer.
uln2003 chips and then an old article came to my mind.
a year back i came across this article by lamedust, on how to make a laser cutter from salvaged material from scanners.
back then i thought it was a great idea and started out trying to make the frame together with a friend. however when we finally finished the frame it turned out we had made a lot of bad decisions whch made the trolley roll quite bad (even when poured over with vine oil
so after making the purchase of two uln2003’s i left the project.
until now.
just having found the old chips gave me will to make the project finished.
so here is my first drawing of initial design.
i want to use as much of the salvaged scanners as possible.
the downside of this is the small side of the final product but this is better than no product.
the chain-drive and alu-rods drive the sled also taken from the scanners.
to make this kind of project you need stepper motors
here is an example of how to interface and recognize them.
