antima55 | adventures in reality

CAT | hardware

yesterday towards todays morning we experimented with our panasonic ave 5 video mixer creating feedbacks and general psy madness.
above is one of the recorded movies more will hopefully be uploaded soon enough.
the panasonic is a marvel of its kind analog in its interface and output but digital underneath the hood making it fast, realiable and intuitive.

this is very useful technology as it gives the opportunity of superimoising graphics on reality in glasses for example without using camera input as the gate to reality.
well maybe that tech already exists but i sure couldn’t find it.

btw the technology is based on oleds which ive seen doing crazy stuff like bending.

go to gizmodo and check it out!

micro computers, gumstix, bifferboards

even today computers and netbooks still have a certain size, mobile phones and smart phones have catched on but the interface and unflexibility due to closed source is narrowing development.
here comes bifferboards and gumstix to save you.
bifferboards is a small small computer running the following specs:
* 150MHz CPU, Intel 486SX instruction set, MMU.
* 1 watt power consumption (200mA @5v)
* 68mm x 28mm x 21mm (weight 28g)
* 32MB SDRAM/8MB Flash
* OHCI/EHCI USB 2.0
* 10/100 ethernet
* Serial console 115200 baud (can be used as 2 GPIO)
* 4-pin JTAG (can be used as GPIO)
* 2 permanent GPIO (1 LED, 1 button)
* Linux 2.6.30.5
* 35 pounds each
quite a good offer, connect an arduino to one of them and you have yourself an ideal platform for everything from security, server, robots etc.
it runs fast enough for these small scale tasks

but for heavy duty you need to go further down in scale and hit the gumstix:

  • OMAP 3530 Applications Processor with ARM Cortex-A8 CPU, a C64x+ digital signal processor (DSP) core, and the POWERVR SGX for 2D and 3D graphics acceleration
  • 600 MHz
  • I/O pin compatible with all OMAP 35x-based Overo COMs
    - on-board microSD card slot
    - I2C, PWM lines (6), A/D (6), 1-wire, UART, SPI, Camera in, Extra MMC lines.
    - Headset, Microphone, backup battery,
    - USB OTG signals, USB HS Host

and so on.
really incredible specs for such a small device:

but then again the price matches at 219$ with wifi and bluetooth and 149 for ground option.
